Mineral Oxychloride: A Continuous Disinfection Method for Legionella Control in Healthcare Water Systems

Legionella contamination in hospital and extended care water systems remains a persistent and serious risk, and it often resists traditional thermal or chemical disinfection methods. A recent large-scale study of more than 100 U.S. healthcare facilities evaluated a mineral oxychloride based continuous disinfection protocol and found it effective in reducing Legionella counts and suppressing biofilms over time. The results suggest that mineral oxychloride provides a stable, long-term solution for Legionella risk management by supporting safer water systems without the drawbacks of conventional shock treatments or corrosive disinfectants.
